Power generation increased to recoded level of 16,170MW: Abid Sher Ali

ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (Online): The State minister for water and power Abid Sher ali has that after better utilization of resources electricity generation capacity has been reached to highest ever recorded level of 16,170 megawatt.

The state minister for water and power has said that the ministry of water and power is implementing a comprehensive strategy including short medium and long term plans for hydropower in the country. Government has cleared circular debt and paid Rs 450 billion that yielded into reduction of hour long load shedding and its duration has been reduced from 18 hours to 8 hours.

Abid Sher Ali said that government to carry out study of 5th extension of Tarbela dam having installed capacity of 500-1000 megawatt and after its completion in 2017-18 cheap power will be provide to the masses that is in the manifesto of the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz.
He said that work on Tarbela 4th extension has been awarded to M/s Sinohydro and contractor will mobilize within fifteen days.

Expressing his views at a social website, the state minister further told this scribe that lower Spat Gah hydro power project with installed capacity of 496 megawatt is scheduled to be completed by 2017-18. Pending issues of E&M works for Golen Gole hydro power project has been addressed by issuing Letter of Interest to M/s rain power. Issuance of TFC of Rs 10 billion and Sukuk bond of Rs 10 billion process for Neelum Jehlum hydro power project is on fast track and on war footing basis.
Ch Abid Sher Ali showed satisfaction over the progress on Golen Gole hydro power project. He said that Prime Minister has directed WAPDA to take steps to make the Duber Khwar HPP (130MW) and Jabban HPP (22MW) operational by Oct 2013.
