KP Governor vows to eliminate polioce

PESHAWAR, Sep 27 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer
Shaukatullah Friday expressed concern over continuous emergence of
polio cases in different parts of the country.
He emphasized more efficient and strenuous efforts to reach
to each and every child and vaccinate them against polio.
Governor was presiding over a high level meeting at Governor's House,
Peshawar wherein the pace of progress and the targets achieved through various polio vaccination campaigns discussed.
"This is our problem and we are struggling to protect our own children
from becoming victim of the fatal disease and even the slight increase in number of reported case pose a great challenge of enormous magnitude", he said.
Referring to the recently high level meeting held under the
chairmanship of the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad, the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa particularly mentioned the keen interest
of the Prime Minister in getting FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa totally free from polio.
He particularly referred to the pace of progress in respect of polio
vaccination campaigns in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency as well as Frontier Regions, Peshawar, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan and North and South Waziristan Agencies and desired that joint efforts both on part of security forces and the civil authorities have to be continued in a vigorous way.
He thanked the WHO, UNICEF and other donors for their support and
cooperation as well as strong commitment in making the polio eradication campaign a real success.
Meanwhile, the meeting was informed that though the ratio of refusal
cases in respect of polio vaccination is very nominal yet serious efforts are also in progress to mobilize each and every segment of the society in getting rid of the problem.
It was also said on this occasion that the areas which could not be
covered in the past are being targeted during the ensuing
campaigns.
The meeting beside others was attended by provincial Chief Secretary,
Muhammad Shahzad Arbab, Additional Chief Secretary, FATA, Arbab Muhammad Arif, health secretaries of the province and FATA and commissioners of respective divisions as well as representatives of the Federal Government, WHO, UNICEF, Rotary International and the other donors.
