Injectable Polio Vaccine (IPV) campaign will be kicked off on Wednesday

QUETTA Apr 12 (PPI): The second phase of Injectable Polio Vaccine (IPV) campaign will be kicked off in 18 Union Councils of high risk District Killa Abdullah Wednesday.
The 8 days campaign aims to vaccinate more than 16300 children in Tehsil Killa-Abdullah and Gulistan.
Provincial Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (ECO) Balochistan Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman has said during the campaign children between age of 4 to 23 months would be injected with polio vaccine which would boost the immunity of the children in these areas where children are most susceptible to this crippling disease. .
"0 to 23 months children are most vulnerable to polio and more than 85% cases reported last year were from this age group,” he added
The vaccination will be carried out through skilled vaccinators. Around 85 temporary vaccination outreach centers and 12 fixed sides will be established in two Tehsils of Killa Abdullah, Dr Saif Said.
Provincial Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman has said that the first phase of IPV campaign has been successfully conduced in districts Quetta, Pishin and selected Tehsils of Killa-Abdullah. “More than 200,000 children were vaccinated in this phase, and 93% of the target was achieved during the campaign,"
Around 140296 in Quetta, 37354 in Pishin, 29238 in Killa Abdullah were vaccinated in this Campaign.
Dr Saifur Rehman appealed the parents to vaccinate your children at the nearest Basic Health Unit (BHU) help prevent your child from lifetime paralysis.
Balochistan’s first Polio case of 2016 was reported in Quetta city in February. Muhammad Akram 30 months older was diagnosed with polio virus in the provincial capital. Total eight polio cases were reported in Pakistan during the 2016 and the Federal and provincial Governments were optimistic that the war against Polio would be continued.
Balochistan Provincial EOC Coordinator Dr Syed Saifur Rehman has said that the recent polio case of Quetta missed the IPV in 2015. “ one case in 2016 and five in 2015 in Quetta and one from Killa Abdullah in 2015 reported and they missed the IPV Campaign, Dr Saif said adding if we vaccinated these children from IPV then these case would not be reported.
He said that during the current campaign the security forces are also engaged to avert any untoward incident, adding Balochistan Levies and Police would accompany the teams to ensure security while Frontier Corpse (FC) would also assist the campaigns in bordering towns.
