Eradication of polio a challenge for provincial govt.: Chief Secretary

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has taken certain important and serious measures for prevention of the fatal diseases and particularly eradiation of polio in the province.
This was stated by the Chief Secretary, Saifullah Chattha while chairing a meeting to review the arrangements for the polio immunization campaign and National Immunization Days (NIDs) in the province, the other day.
The Federal Secretary Health, Muhammad Ayub Sheikh, Inspector General of Police, Ahsan Mehboob, Secretary Health Balochistan, Dr. Muhammad Umar Baloch, Commissioner Quetta Division, Kambar Dashti besides the representatives of World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
The preparations for the immunization campaign were reviewed during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary said that eradication of polio is a challenge for the provincial government.
He mentioned that certain serious steps have been taken to prevent the diseases, which would help eradicate them.
The Chief Secretary on the occasion particularly applauded the contribution and efforts of the health workers particularly the women engaged in the campaign.
He said that the courage and dutifulness of the female workers in the anti-polio initiatives and campaigns is praiseworthy that they are discharging their duties bravely for saving our children from the crippling disease.
However, he said that the provincial government has to keep on taking the ongoing steps rather with more determination and hard work.
In this regard, the role of civil society, political and religious leaders is vital and as such they have to play it effectively, adding he stressed.
They should take wholehearted part in the immunization campaign supporting it in their respective areas of influence, the Chief Secretary stressed further.
Addressing the meeting, the Federal Secretary noted it with contentment that the image of the country has improved regarding polio eradication.
He was appreciative of the provincial government for taking result-oriented steps for eradication of polio in the province. The steps being taken by the government would yield good results, he believed.
