Malaysia, Turkish educationists visits AIOU, agrees to enhance bilateral cooperation on higher education level

Islamabad , Sept 25 (Online): Vice-Chancellor, Open University Malaysia, Prof. Anuwar Ali and Chairman, Turkish higher education council, Prof. Dr. Jennifer Cetinsaya on Wednesday visited the Allama Iqbal Open University(AIOU) and decided to open new avenues of bilateral cooperation at the level of higher education.
On their arrival at the University’s main campus, they were received by the AIOU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi, who briefed them on the performance and the development work of the University for combating illiteracy and ensuring access to quality education at the mass level.
They were also taken around the various departments of the University to show them the existing ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities for 1.3 students across the country. The visiting educationists evinced keen interest in the university’s educational pursuits. Both sides agreed to enhance their bilateral cooperation, taking benefit from the expertise and experiences in the higher education sector.
They lauded the AIOU’s for its outstanding work and said it was emerging as one top-level universities in the Muslim World. They said, the AIOU enjoyed rich capacity and potential meeting the students’ educational requirements, as per international standard.
While recording his comments about AIOU, Prof. Anuwar Ali said that he was highly impressed by the University’s high-standing after visiting the IT-based educational facilities at the AIOU’s main campus. Dr. Anuwar Ali appreciated leadership qualities of Dr. Sangi and his efforts and initiatives providing financial support to the poor and needy students.
Dr. Anuwar said his University was looking forward joining-hands with AIOU for exchange of experiences, expertise and faculty members for promotion of education, particularly at higher educational levels.
Briefing the visiting guests on the university’s performance, Dr. Sangi said that it had set up video-Conferencing system at its main campuses throughout the country for interaction between AIOU’s teachers and students. AIOU, he said is amongst the 17-Mega Universities around the world and this University has the credit of educating people from class one to Ph.D level.
The University has recently launched students’ support schemes, including ‘educate-a-child’ scheme, open schooling system, ‘Earn to learn’ scheme that aimed at providing educational facilities to all segments of society and encouraging the poor and talented students. The University is planning to get license for TV live broadcasting. The Book-ware house of the AIOU is the largest one in Asia, he remarked.
Recording his comments about AIOU, Prof. Dr. Jennifer Cetinsayay said the university was doing outstanding work and it had set a good model of providing quality education and fighting illiteracy for the rest of the Muslim World. He paid tributes to the university’s vice chancellor and his team for introducing some rare students-friendly schemes. His country, he added, wished to learn from its experience and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
