Secretary Health says: Just an unfortunate not to eradicate polio disease from Balochistan

QUETTA: The Secretary Health Balochistan, Noorul Haq Baloch has said that it is an unfortunate that could not be fully eradicated from the province despite strenuous efforts and huge spending for the cause of eradication.
He was addressing the ceremony held marking the celebration of Mother and Child health care week at the Balochistan Boy Scouts Association headquarters here the other day.
The Provincial Health Department had organized the ceremony in collaboration with other concerned organization.
The Secretary Health was concerned about incidence of the polio disease in the province. He said that our children are getting affected due to the polio virus, which is an unfortunate in the situation when the virus has been eradicated from majority of the countries in world, he maintained.
Noorul Haq Baloch stressed the need to work together for eradication of polio virus from the province. All segments of the society including social as well as religious and tribal elders have to play their wholehearted part in this regard and particularly creating much needed awareness, he stressed.
The Secretary on the occasion also expressed sorrow over casualties due to the measles in Balochistan. He regretfully pointed out that some 810 children lost their lives due to measles last year, but no one paid attention towards the issue.
Moreover, the Secretary Health was also concerned about the prevalence of maternal and infant mortality in the province. He said that it is highest in the country, which is a matter of great concern for all of us.
The Director General Health Services, Dr. Farooq Azam Jan, senior gynecologist, Professor Dr. Nail Ahsan, Abdul Wahid Baloch and Dr. Masood Khan also addressed the ceremony.
They also spoke at length about the issues related to mother and child health care. They said that although the government is doing its best in its limited resources in this regard, still we need to create awareness about the issues among the people.
They on the occasion underlined the need to train the lady health workers for the government is already working.
