President emphasizes greater investment in Higher Education

ISLAMABAD Sept 20 (Online): President Mamnoon Hussain has emphasized the need for greater investment in the higher education particularly science and technology to meet the modern day challenges.

Addressing the 52nd convocation of Comsats Institute of Information Technology in Islamabad‚ he said science and technology has become driving force of economic activity and innovation in the world. We will also have to invest heavily in this sector to compete with the modern world.

He said though Pakistan has been lagging behind in the higher education yet it has made some major strides in developing the human capital. A lot more needs to be done for the development of human resource in order to put the country on the path of sustainable development.

Expressing the government's commitment to significantly enhance investment in the higher education‚ Mamnoon Hussain said the government has decided to increase budgetary allocations for the next five years. He said the government is determined to make education more accessible and affordable.

The president urged the academic institutions to develop their curricula according to the market requirements. He said linkages between industry and academic institutions will also help the students to better explore their talent in their respective fields.

He said the young generation should play their role in the nation building and work with honesty and dedication for the betterment of the society.

Speaking on the occasion‚ Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid said the youth are the future leaders and builders of new Pakistan. He hoped they will fully utilize their knowledge to live up to the expectations of the nation.

The Minister said the PML (N) government will implement its election manifesto also envisaging promotion of education.

Later‚ the President gave away medals and certificates to the outstanding graduating students.
