Dr. Masood Ahmed Siddiqui: UoB Professor conferred HEC’s Best University Teacher Award

QUETTA: Professor Dr. Masood Ahmed Siddiqui of Chemistry department of University of Balochistan was awarded with the Best University Teacher for the year 2012-13 by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Dr. Masood Siddiqui was among 45 faculty members, who were conferred Best University Teacher Awards at a ceremony held at the HEC Secretariat, Islamabad recently with Inter Provincial Coordination Federal Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada attended as the chief guest. Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC was also present.
It may be mentioned here the Best University Teacher Award Scheme was initiated in 2004 for a period of five years i.e. 2004-2009. The project was extended for one year till June 2010. Later the project was changed from development to recurring budget, with the aim to recognize scholarly endeavours of faculty members on a regular basis.
Under the Best University Teacher Award, outstanding university teachers are conferred upon an award comprising cash prize of Rs 100,000 and a certificate for their performance. In order to make the process more transparent and efficient, the criteria to judge performance of teachers has been revised, which include Qualification (5%), Teaching (50%), Research (30%) and Co-Curricular Activities (15%).
The revised criteria were communicated to all public and private sector universities with a request to nominate eligible teachers for Best University Teacher Award 2012-2013. As a result, 85 nominations were received from 45 public sector universities and 18 nominations were received from 11 private sector universities. After the evaluation by the award committee, 45 teachers were selected for the Best University Teacher Award 2012-2013.
It is pertinent to mention that during nine years, 368 best university teacher awards have been conferred.
