AIOU starts mailing of books for Autumn 2013 Semester to its millions of students

Islamabad , Sept 18 (Online): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has started mailing of books for the Semester Autumn, 2013 to its millions of students enrolled from Matric to Ph.D level programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi has inaugurated the mailing process through packing-machine from the mailing of books of CT programme.

Addressing on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that special concentration towards upgrading students’ services are being laid during the last more than three years on which trust of the students on University has raised by many fold and the University’s annual enrollment has been increasing rapidly.

AIOU, he said will soon present to the President, Mamnoon Hussain its plan on establishment of a ‘green campus’ to arrange academic facilities of international standard for providing natural and clean environment to its students for their educational pursuits. This campus will be unique of its nature and it will be the first time in the country’s history that a campus will be built in the country’s green area which will encompass all basic educational facilities, in line with the international standard and requirements.

The Vice-Chancellor said that they will also brief the President who is also the Chancellor of the University overall development plan and activities. He said the University will request the President for the donation of a sufficient piece of government land in any green belt for the establishment of ‘green campus’.

The AIOU, he said has been successful over the years to enhance students’ enrolments, bringing the annual registration around 1.3 million. The University was steadily moving ahead to expand its infrastructural network, by opening new campuses and study centers in every nock and corner of the country. Dr. Sangi said that Khudabad campus has been inaugurated and started its functioning while last week, the Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan has laid foundation stone of Skardu campus.

While highlighting the efficient financial management system set-up by the University recent years, the Vice-Chancellor said that all accounts of the University are being handle in a transparent, strictly following the prescribed rules and regulation, this was also noticed by the Auditor General of Pakistan and cleared the University free from any financial irregularities, removing around 192 audit observation during the current year.

AIOU’s Finance Committee , the Vice-Chancellor said has approved in principle a ‘housing scheme’ for the residence of University’s employees. He said that the University will provide necessary funding for implementation of the housing scheme. The coordinator of the scheme, Zafar Ilyas has been asked to work-out the details of the scheme, ensuring maximum benefit to the low-paid employees.

Incharge, Mailing Section, Waqar Ahmed Sheikh said that we have received the first list of about twenty two thousand students of CT programme for the Semester Autumn, 2013 from Admission Section and the books and study materials are being sent to them.
