Peshawar, February 16 (Online): Terrorists targeted police van with a roadside bomb on the outskirts of Peshawar, leaving a cop dead and another injured, officials said on Sunday.
The attack came when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities kicked off third phase of anti-polio vaccination drive today in Peshawar which is declared hub of the disease by World Health Organization, but frequent attacks on vaccinators have hampered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Isaf-led provincial government’s efforts to eradicate polio from the region.
Police and rescue officials said a bomb planted on the roadside went off when a patrolling police mobile passed by near Badhni bridge in Charsadda road area. A policeman was killed and another injured.
The police party was tasked with protecting polio teams and volunteers in the area.
SP Rahim Shah said two kg explosive material was planted on the roadside and set off with a remote-controlled. Police were searching the terrorists following the blast.
During the vaccination campaign ‘Sehat ka Insaf’, the Peshawar district administration has imposed Section 144 and banned motorcycle riding for one day in the city as part of its security plan.
