Independent candidates lead LB polls in Balochistan

Quetta, Dec. 08 (Online): Independent candidates have bagged most of the seats in Balochistan where local bodies’ elections held in peaceful manner on Saturday, media reported on Sunday.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, independent candidates are leading with 640 seats, followed by National Party’s 145 seats.

Officials said Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N secured 135 seats, JUI-F 112, Pushtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) 120, Balochistan National Party (BNP) 14, Awami National Party (ANP) 8, Hazara Democratic Party 4, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Nazriati) 3, PTI 3, PPP 1, Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen 1.

Officials said the result of 1174 candidates has so far been acquired while that of 478 candidates on 2976 seats is yet to be obtained. Official results will be announced on Dec 10, ECP said.

Balochistan is the foremost province that led the race for Local Bodies elections with over 18000 candidates vied for 7,190 seats. There are at least 3.2 million registered voters in the province. Large number of women thronged polling stations in different constituencies in 32 districts.

No candidate contested in Awaran and other 500 areas; meanwhile, 2509 candidates unofficially stood elected unopposed in different constituencies.
