LB polls: Balochistan govt bans bikes double ridding for 5 days

Quetta, Dec. 06 (Online): Citing security reasons, the provincial government of Balochistan on Friday banned double riding on motorcycles in Quetta and rest of the province.

The decision was made to ensure security for the local bodies elections, banned would remain effective from December 6 to December 10.

Balochistan government also announced a public holiday on day of polls across the province.

It is pertinent to mention that there are at least 1.2 million registered motorcycles in Quetta.

Meanwhile, Balochistan government has showed its consent to provide foolproof security to the international observation missions for monitoring the Local Government elections today (Saturday).

“About 55,000 men of security forces have been deployed on 12,381 polling booths in 32 districts of the province to ensure peaceful conduct of elections.

Categorizing the status of polling stations he said that as many as 2,776 polling stations were declared very sensitive, 1,581 as sensitive and 958 as normal.

Police, Balochistan Constabulary, Frontier Corps and Levis force personnel have been assigned elections duties while some 5,500 Army troops would remain as an additional force to retaliate as quick response force in the volatile areas of the province. Replying to a question, he contended that under the Constitution of Pakistan, Army has been called in aid of civil power.
