Lt General Haroon Aslam formally resigns after being superseded

ISLAMABAD Nov 28 (Online): The senior most general, Lt General Haroon Aslam has tendered his resignation Thursday and sent the letter to the Defence Ministry from GHQ.

Sources said that Lt. General Aslam – who was the senior most general officer of the Army - resigned after he was superseded by Gen. Raheel Sharif as Chief of Army Staff and Gen. Rashad Mahmood as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

They said the charge of Chief of Logistic Staff was withdrawn from Lt. General Aslam 10 days ago, adding a farewell ceremony was held in his honor a day before yesterday.

Meanwhile, a notification regarding the appointments of Gen. Sharif and Gen. Mahmood was also issued by the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi. The notification was sent formation commanders of the Pakistan Army.

It merits mentioning that it is an army tradition when a junior officer supersedes a senior there are two options either the senior officer can resign or continue to work under the junior officer. Lt Gen Haroon Aslam opted for resignation.
