Opposition requisitions Senate session to debate host of critical issues including law and order, price hike and drone attacks

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (INP) Opposition members in the Senate have submitted a requisition requesting the Chairman to summon the session of the Upper House of Parliament to discuss a host of critical issues facing the country.

The requisition signed by 46 opposition members including PPP’s leader of the opposition Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Mian Raza Rabbani, Farooq Naek, Rehman Malik, Farhatullah Babar and others was submitted in the Senate Secretariat on Thursday.

The opposition members said they want urgent discussion on the current prevailing political and security situation in the country, situation in Balochistan including the relief efforts undertaken for the effectees of the recent earthquake and the missing persons, the recent drone attacks, condition in FATA as well as the situation crated by the IDPs and the offer of talks to the Taliban by the government.

Other issues that the opposition members mentioned with the request for the session also included the formation of the National Security Council, the recent price hike specially the prices of petroleum products, gas and electricity as well as the essential items, the foreign policy of Pakistan with particular reference to the visit of the Prime Minister to the United States and the repercussions of the expected reduction of forces by US/ISAF in 2014 in Afghanistan, and the proposal to privatize the 68 units announced by the government.
