Three-day Eid expo kicks off in Capital

Islamabad, October 11 (Online): A three-day Eid Expo, Friday, kicked off here with an aim to enhance the mobility, accessibility, connectivity and visibility of businesswomen so that their uplift and empowerment can be ensured.

The expo was inaugurated by UNIDO’s National Programme Coordinator Shahina Waheed and Mrs. Parvin M. Khan, SVP and Regional Head of Women Entrepreneurship Development at the First Women Bank Limited (FWBL).

A large number of businesswomen, visitors and representatives of different organisations were also present on the occasion.

Visitors took keen interest in items displayed at the expo that included jewellery, garments, paintings, marble, handicrafts, gems, home textiles, mosaic and other items.

Speaking at the occasion, Shahina Waheed and Parvin M Khan said that this event will serve as a platform for women to learn from their experienced fellow women, and exchange ideas, cooperate and provide guidance to each other.

We are here to provide opportunities to businesswomen and especially support the creative industries, they said.

We specifically focus on promoting gender integration in creative, non-traditional sub-sectors of marble mosaic, inlay and handicrafts, home textiles, gems and jewellery, they informed.

They said that many women entrepreneurs have been capacitated through trainings led by local and international experts in developing creativity in the last three years.

Shahina Waheed said that the Business Growth Centre, an initiative of the UN agency and the FWBL has been serving as a facilitation unit support women entrepreneurs.

SVP, FWBL Parveen Khan said that the President of the Bank Ms Charmaine Hidayatullah is very keen to promote women entrepreneurs so that they could attain economic freedom.

FWBL will continue to support women’s development and also participate in all such moves initiated by different organisations, said Ms. Khan.
