Railways to purchase 50 locomotives from US

ISLAMABAD, Oct 06 (Online): The Ministry of Railways to has decided to purchase 50 locomotives from United States worth of 22 billion and 500 million rupees.
According to reports, the ministry would soon issue tender notice for interested parties to purchase railway engines.
Sources in the ministry told Online, former Railways minister Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour had signed an agreement to purchase 75 locomotives with Chinese Dring Fang company but the present minister Khawaja Saad Rafique cancelled that agreement.
Saad Rafique argued that locomotives had been imported from Dring Fang but those were out of order and if the engines will also become substandard who would be accountable, he questioned.
Sources added that ministry of Railways will have to pay 22 billion and 500 million rupees to US to buy these railway engines.
According to estimated calculation, Pakistan will pay Rs 400 to Rs 450 million for each engine.
Sources in ministry mentioned that Minister for Railways trying hard to save the department from privatization.
